It does not stop rock chips, it's a chemical and cosmetic shield, not physical armor.

For best results the paint should be corrected first, so budget for paint correction on top of the coating if the finish has swirls. Ceramic is the sweet spot for people keeping a car for years who want it to look great with far less effort.

PPF: the only one that stops rock chips

Paint protection film is a thick, clear urethane film physically applied over the paint. It's the only option here that actually absorbs impact, rock chips, road debris, light scratches. Premium films are even self-healing, where light marks disappear with heat. It's the most protective and the most expensive, and it's often applied just to high-impact areas (front bumper, hood, mirrors) rather than the whole car to manage cost.

PPF makes sense for high-value cars, leased performance vehicles, or anyone who drives enough highway miles that rock chips are a real concern. Many owners combine it with a ceramic coating on top for the best of both.
